Sierra Aikido Mission
Our mission is to provide Aikido training to adults, children and teens in the Santa
Clara and San Mateo County communities on the San Francisco Peninsula. We enhance
the traditional way of teaching Aikido by:
- Making Aikido training affordable to anyone through:
- Dues supported by grants and scholarships, according to need
- Special programs in collaboration with community organizations that serve disadvantaged communities
- Adapting the Aikido core program to promote:
- Physical and emotional health for all ages and physical abilities
- Work/life balance for adults and families
- Education and personal development for adults, children and teens
- Working with organizations with complementary goals. Collaborations include:
- Workshops and internships for mental health and education professionals, as well as physical health educators
- Interdisciplinary studies in academics and the arts
- Cross-training for participants in a variety of physical activities
- Enabling every student to attain high, yet achievable, standards in the
art of Aikido through:
- Team-teaching by high-ranked black belt instructors and senior students
- A clearly structured curriculum and learning objectives
- Focus on quality of movement
- Much individual attention
- Self-directed, self-paced learning toward personal goals
